BioEclosion Introduces Its Pocket Lab for Diagnostic Testing

April 4, 2026

The Eurecat technology center and the Catalan startup BioEclosion leveraged the recent Mobile World Congress to unveil a portable platform that acts as a pocket-sized laboratory with analytical capability to perform in vitro diagnostics, delivering results in about 10 minutes.

The new device, which can be applied across multiple health domains—including the detection of infectious diseases, chronic-disease monitoring, food safety, and veterinary medicine—carries a patent certifying its ability to detect autoimmune diseases such as celiac disease.

The device, based on highly sensitive magneto-actuated electrochemical biosensors, “offers, in a short time, quantitative results from small sample volumes, a fact that facilitates immediate clinical decision-making and reduces dependence on laboratory logistics and waiting times,” explains Cristina Casellas, head of the Functional Printing and Integrated Devices Unit at Eurecat.

Thanks to its portable, autonomous Point-of-Care design, it brings analytical capability to any care setting, from primary care clinics and pharmacies to the patient’s home.

Integration that Enables Telemedicine

In addition, the solution incorporates a data transmission system that makes its integration with other platforms for telemedicine and remote monitoring possible. In this way, it “drives a connected digital health ecosystem that aligns the product with current and future trends in the health sector, such as decentralized and preventive medicine, through immediate-interpretation algorithms built into the reader and with native connectivity that facilitates real-time data interoperability,” notes Eurecat Medical Devices Market Manager, José Antonio Gago.

Specifically, Eurecat has collaborated in the development of the single-use innovative cartridge for sample analysis, which incorporates an electrode based on printed electronics, as well as in the design of the portable reader, the accompanying app for displaying results, and its data transmission systems, contributing to the industrial validation of the platform for market deployment.

In this regard, Eurecat is a multidisciplinary technology center with capabilities in five major knowledge domains, among which life sciences and health technologies stand out, converging with digital technologies, cyber-physical systems, materials and manufacturing processes, and environmental technologies to address the complex challenges faced by companies and society.
