Valencia debuted as the host city for Tech Future 2026, Orange’s flagship technology-innovation event, which has brought to the city leaders and experts from companies and public administrations to share real-world cases and reveal the trends that will shape the digital future. Conceived as a meeting point to analyze the real impact of the technological revolution across different sectors, the day offered a practical view of the impact of technologies such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, private 5G networks for critical infrastructures, new work environments, or IoT solutions in the digital transformation of businesses.
During the opening, Raúl Fernández, the regional director for Large Enterprises Levante at Orange, highlighted the company’s evolution toward an integrated model of technology services. He also underscored the dynamism of the Valencian Community, the fourth region in Spain by number of companies, with more than 352,000 active businesses and close to 11% of the national business fabric, figures that reinforce its strategic weight in the country’s economic development.
Technology Transformation Applied to Critical Infrastructure
Various participating companies and institutions—the Port Authority of Valencia, Fermax, Eiffage, Kyndryl, Movildata, Civitphone, and WM Clinics—presented their transformation projects, showing how Orange’s technology is driving tangible improvements in efficiency, security, and service quality.
In this context, Javier Gallego, head of Technologies at the Port Authority of Valencia (APV), and Joan Meseguer, senior project manager at the Valencia Port Foundation, presented the ambitious project of the Port Authority of Valencia, “one of the most advanced in terms of technology-driven transformation applied to critical infrastructures, with the support of the ministry and European institutions,” they noted
The APV has anchored the entire project around a private 5G network, “giving absolute value to the security it provided and to the hypers automation capabilities it enabled,” Meseguer stated. The port has thus strengthened its surveillance with drone operations, enabling remote maintenance of infrastructure, including the use of augmented reality glasses for real-time technical assistance and laying the groundwork for future applications such as autonomous vehicle movement within the port premises.
The Next Generation of Digital Services
Artificial intelligence was very much present in the session. Francisco Sánchez, CIO of Fermax, explained how the company has opted for publicly available high-availability iCloud technology to manage connected video door intercoms and provide immediate support from each user’s mobile device. This new service marks a major shift for this Valencian company, a flagship in the Spanish market for video door intercoms.
Meanwhile, Eiffage, a company that works continually with critical infrastructure, indicated the need to cover all its dispersed infrastructure around the world, especially regarding cybersecurity. Thus, Francisco Javier Cuenca, head of Systems, Infrastructure and Security at Eiffage, highlighted the cloud’s role as an essential element “to deliver much more agile responses to contain any kind of threat.”
Luis Aguilar, Digital Workplace Services Director at Kyndryl, focused on the complexity of the new digital workplace and the need to ensure secure environments without compromising the user experience. “Workspaces are becoming the gateway for cyberattacks, and that’s where many companies begin to build their defense networks,” he explained.
IoT and Data Analytics to Transform Sectors
In the IoT realm, Luis Rodrigo, CEO of Movildata, illustrated how this technology is redefining fleet management, enabling optimized driving, temperature control in the transport of food or medicines, real-time vehicle tracking, and improved operational efficiency for urban vehicles such as street sweepers. “Today we can attach a sensor to almost anything, allowing us to measure every detail such as whether the driver is looking at their phone and even sipping a coffee while driving.”
From the public sector, Jordi Gisbert, CEO of Civitphone, discussed how artificial intelligence has helped improve citizen services and increase the efficiency of administrations, through tools that allow access to information from all calls received by an institution such as a city hall.
Finally, in the medical field, where the data handled is highly sensitive, Francisco Castillo, Digital & Technology Director at WM Clinics, emphasized the importance of AI for managing clinical information and enhancing clinical decision support as part of its expansion plan.
