Montbru Cheese Factories Modernize Their Artisanal Production with Digitalization

May 20, 2026

Formatgeries Montbrú, one of Catalonia’s leading artisanal cheesemakers, has decided to take a decisive step in its business evolution and has chosen Ibernova as its technology partner to undertake a comprehensive digitization project of its management and its factory.

A strategic decision to produce more and better

The dairy, founded in 1980, faces a growth phase in volume and complexity that demands addressing multiple challenges: higher traceability requirements, increasingly stringent food safety standards, management of highly specific artisanal processes, and the need to consolidate information that today is spread across different systems.

Currently, Formatgeries Montbrú uses systems that, both in the overall management of production and in other processes outside the system (manufacturing orders, planning, and other ad hoc needs), do not meet the company’s expectations.

In this context, the company has decided to move toward comprehensive digitization, replacing systems that no longer keep pace with its evolution and trusting a single technology partner to integrate both the management system (ERP) and the plant Manufacturing Execution System (MES). “The challenge is not to produce more, but to produce better—with control and traceability,” say Formatgeries Montbrú, summing up the project’s spirit.

More control, more visibility, more security

With Ibernova’s collaboration, Montbrú will deploy the company’s ERP and MES systems to digitalize the main areas of the organization, from relationships with dairy farmers to plant-floor control. The goal is to build a connected environment where information flows in real time and enables more precise, faster decisions aligned with the cheese maker’s quality standards. Key focus areas include:

  1. Production and complete batch traceability from milk to final product, ensuring end-to-end tracking.
  2. Quality control and food safety, with digital records and real-time evidence that facilitate audits and certifications.
  3. Relationships with dairy farmers and milk procurement, integrating origin information as a central part of Montbrú’s quality model.
  4. Warehouse, cold rooms, and logistics management, optimizing inventories, turnover, and storage conditions for each product type.
  5. Real-time integration of management, production and data, unifying the business view and connecting decision-making with what happens on the factory floor.
