For years, Freepik was known as a large repository of graphic resources. Designers, agencies, marketing departments, freelancers, and small businesses turned to the platform to download vectors, photographs, templates, or illustrations. However, the rise of generative AI has completely changed that model. The need is no longer just to find a resource, but to create, transform, enlarge, animate, edit, and adapt content in minutes.

The new platform presents itself as an environment that brings together tools for image, video and audio generation, editing, upscaling, 3D and creative workflows. In practice, it marks a shift from the concept of a “image bank” to a “creative infrastructure” for companies and professionals who need to produce more content, in more formats and with ever-shorter cycles.

The choice of the name is not accidental. Magnific was the AI-powered image enhancement and upscaling startup acquired by Freepik in 2024, and its brand was more aligned with the company’s new phase. Now, under a single identity, what had previously been seen as separate pieces—graphic resources, AI tools, advanced editing capabilities, and solutions aimed at professional teams—are integrated. Users’ accounts, projects, and subscriptions are migrated to magnific.com, according to the company itself.

The move comes amid the consolidation of an increasingly competitive market. Adobe, Canva, Runway, Midjourney, Google or OpenAI are accelerating the development of tools to generate and edit visual content, while brands, agencies and creators seek solutions that allow them to reduce production times without sacrificing creative control. In that context, Magnific aims to differentiate itself not only through its AI models but by integrating the entire creative process into a single platform.

For small and medium-sized enterprises and freelancers, this evolution is particularly relevant. The creative AI tools enable access to capabilities that until recently were reserved for larger, budget-rich teams: product image generation, campaign creatives, social media assets, visual prototypes, short videos, or adapting a single idea to different formats. The promise isn’t to substitute human creativity but to multiply the execution capacity of small teams that must compete in an increasingly visual, fast-paced, and demanding environment.

The rebranding also confirms the growing weight of the company within the Spanish tech ecosystem. And in that race, a company born in Málaga wants to play in the global top tier of AI-powered creativity.
