Canon Colorado M-Traffic for Traffic Sign Production

April 5, 2026

Canon has launched the new Colorado M-Traffic printer, designed for the production of road signage, both regulated and non-regulated. Equipped with Canon UVgel 540-R inks and connected to the SAi FlexiCOMPLETE 3M Traffic Edition software, the Colorado M-Traffic delivers consistent, high-quality results within a controlled production workflow that aligns with applicable standards. The printer is compatible with certain 3M reflective substrates, which have been independently evaluated by 3M for suitability under the 3M MCS Warranty for Traffic.

3M offers this warranty on the Colorado M-Traffic, while Canon handles supplying the hardware and ink for the setup. The 3M reflective materials are also purchased independently of the brand, or from its authorized distributors.

UVgel Technology Advantages

This printer features a 1.6 m flexible-width option, meeting the demanding requirements of production environments dedicated to road signage. The compatible Canon UVgel 540-R ink formulation is designed to meet color performance requirements for road signage applications using a CMYK ink set. They enable reproduction of seven key traffic colors in a controlled production flow, helping manufacturers in this segment achieve uniform and precise results when paired with the right substrates and processes. UVgel technology brings together advantages traditionally associated with different ink platforms, such as a wide color gamut, strong lightfastness, high printing speeds, and low-temperature gel curing. It also enables direct lamination, reliable color uniformity, and reduced odor emissions during operation.

Designed for productive, efficient operation, the Colorado M-Traffic supports high-volume workflows, offering the ability to print two 50 m rolls per shift and, in suitable production environments, enabling unattended overnight operation for an additional 50 m roll. In the dedicated “Road Sign” mode, the printer can produce up to 15.3 m²/h on 122 cm-wide substrates, helping users produce traffic signs quickly and uniformly. The Colorado M-Traffic also features rapid roll changes and integrated injector diagnostics to guarantee reliable performance on long-running jobs.

It also incorporates energy-efficient operation, which can help reduce operating costs and meet customers’ sustainability goals. Additionally, UVgel printing processes do not produce ozone emissions, are zero VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), and do not generate hazardous air pollutants under the test conditions defined by Canon.
