Grodi, a company based in Almería, Spain, that specializes in autonomous robotics and computer vision for intensive agriculture, has closed a new investment round led by Swanlaab Innvierte Agri Food Tech and joined by Axon Desarrollo Andalucía (an investment vehicle managed by Axon Partners Group Investment, supported by the Junta de Andalucía and the European Investment Bank, and funded under the ERDF framework) and Innvierte, SICC of the CDTI.
The operation will drive the industrialization of its VEGA 11 robot, consolidate its commercial footprint in Spain’s leading horticultural regions, and advance its expansion strategy in a market of great relevance that demands technological solutions capable of improving productivity, efficiency, and sustainability.
Autonomous robotics and computer vision to transform the greenhouse
Grodi has developed VEGA 11, an autonomous robot designed to move autonomously through Mediterranean greenhouses and provide full visibility of each plant thanks to an advanced computer vision system. The company’s technology combines proprietary hardware with machine-learning based algorithms and big data analytics, enabling producers to optimize their agronomic management, anticipate plant-health issues, and estimate crop yields with high precision. The Grodi APP digital platform centralizes all real-time information to facilitate safer, more efficient, and sustainable decision-making and execution.
Providing efficient, convenient solutions that streamline daily productive management for farmers is Grodi’s primary objective, as CEO Ana Molina emphasizes: “The sector needs solutions that reduce costs, improve resource-use efficiency, and standardize processes. VEGA is proving that automation and computer vision can radically transform the day-to-day management of cultivation.”
For its part, Swanlaab highlights the technological robustness and potential impact of the project. In the words of Xana Belastegui, Partner at Swanlaab Innvierte Agri-Food Tech: “Grodi has managed to combine robotics, computer vision, and advanced analytics into a robust solution that becomes a key tool for the farmer. We believe their technology will have a real impact on productivity, sustainability, and competitiveness in the agricultural sector.”
Industrialization and expansion in a strategic market
The company is at a pivotal growth phase, seeking to consolidate the commercial rollout of VEGA 11, while continuing to expand its technology portfolio with new products that deliver robust solutions directly applicable to the farmer’s day-to-day operations.
“From Axon Desarrollo Andalucía we back projects with a differential technological base and real capacity to transform strategic sectors. Grodi has managed to integrate an innovative technological proposition with a farmer-centered solution. With this financing we will support the development of its business plan and its R&D&I agenda at a critical stage to scale its market impact,” says Macarena González, Director of Investments at Axon Partners Group in Andalucía.
