Galician Firm Binarial Scales Its Physical AI Technology for National Defense

June 24, 2026

The Galician company Binarial has secured two strategic challenges from the Ministry of Defense under the Essential Elements of the Autonomous Vessel (EEBA) project. The validation, granted by the Spanish Navy, the Center for the Development of Technology and Innovation (CDTI), and AINDEF, represents the direct application of its Physical AI technology to the most demanding defense tactical environments, where reliability and decision-making capacity are critical.

EEBA is an open-innovation initiative promoted by the Navy to accelerate the development of dual-use technologies and strengthen Spain’s defense industrial and technological base. The awarding of two of these challenges places Binarial among the companies with the greatest contribution to developing the technological capabilities that will define the next generation of autonomous naval systems in Spain.

Together with leading figures in the national industry, the Galician engineering firm will transfer the technology that is already operating successfully on its autonomous robotic platforms to two areas:

  1. NÉBOA Project (in consortium with Navantia): Development of a decision-making system to guarantee fully autonomous, passive maritime navigation, where the system’s decisions can be understood, audited, and justified by operators. Binarial’s proposal ensures full operability in environments with denied satellite signals, guaranteeing missions without external dependencies.
  2. TETHRA Project (in consortium with SATEC): An advanced command-and-control system for swarms of marine drones based on decentralized networks. This technology enables autonomous cooperation and automatic reconfiguration of the system in the event of unit loss, eliminating the vulnerability of relying on a central server.

A turning point for scalable technology

The confirmation of these projects objectively certifies the maturity and dual-use nature of Binarial’s solutions, placing the company in an optimal position to accelerate its roadmap, driven by the shift toward humanoid robotics and AI systems applied to the physical world.

The development of this technology, conducted entirely from its facilities in Ames, A Coruña, reinforces Binarial’s ability to forge high-value strategic partnerships and highlights the growth of the Galician tech ecosystem, which is driving highly specialized talent and advanced solutions with international reach.

Achieving this level of competitive recognition is the direct result of our sustained investment in cutting-edge R&D in Physical AI. True sovereignty is built from talent and execution capability, ensuring advanced autonomous systems without third-party dependencies,” says Rodrigo Randulfe, CEO and cofounder of Binarial.
