CZFB and Pimec to Boost the Competitiveness of Catalonia’s SMEs and the Industry of the Future

May 6, 2026

The Barcelona Free Trade Zone Consortium (CZFB) and Pimec have signed a strategic collaboration agreement with the aim of strengthening the Catalan business fabric, boosting the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and promoting a more innovative, sustainable industry with international reach. The agreement was signed by CZFB’s general director, Blanca Sorigué, and the president of Pimec’s Industry and New Economy Area, Josep Soto, at a meeting that was also attended by CZFB’s executive president, Pere Navarro, and Pimec’s president, Antoni Cañete.

This alliance establishes a framework for cooperation that contemplates joint actions in key areas such as economic promotion, industrial innovation, activity in industrial parks, knowledge generation, and institutional visibility. Under this framework, CZFB becomes an institutional partner of Pimec and will have a prominent presence in its communication channels, both internal and external, as well as at various high-value business events organized by the employers’ association.

Likewise, both entities will explore synergies in organizing events, producing reports, and strategic content of interest to companies. One of the most significant milestones of the agreement is CZFB’s sponsorship of the 39th edition of the Premis Pimec, which will be held on September 30 at Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, a landmark event on the economic, business, and social agenda of Catalonia. CZFB will also serve as the main sponsor of the IV edition of the Western Vallès Business Recognitions, which will take place on June 18.

The CZFB general director, Blanca Sorigué, has offered a very positive assessment of this agreement with Pimec, stating that “it strengthens our commitment to the business fabric and, especially, to SMEs, which are a key engine of growth and employment. At the Barcelona Free Trade Zone Consortium we want to accompany them in their transformation toward a more innovative, sustainable, and competitive industry. Collaborations like this enable us to generate real synergies and offer new opportunities to the Catalan business ecosystem.”

For its part, the president of the Industry and New Economy Area of Pimec, Josep Soto, has also expressed satisfaction with this alliance and affirmed Pimec’s willingness to “accompany the industrial fabric, predominantly made up of SMEs, through a moment of strong economic, technological, and productive transformations.” In this sense, he added that this agreement will enable tackling the sector’s global challenges, allowing companies to gain scale. On the other hand, Soto took the opportunity to reiterate his call for the National Pact for Industry to be “a useful, operational, and results-oriented instrument.”

The collaboration between the two entities also includes promoting DFactory Barcelona and the CZFB spaces as a business meeting hub, encouraging their use for institutional meetings and sector activities, and reinforcing their role as a driver of Industry 4.0 and the transformation of the productive model.
