The Berlin-based Teufel brand has unveiled STUDIO 5X, its first studio monitor and its entry into the professional audio market. Developed for music producers, sound designers, and audio engineers, this compact 3-way system combines a coaxial speaker layout with analytical and precise playback to provide a reliable reference during composition, production, and mixing.
The active system pairs a 5.25-inch long-throw woofer with a coaxial midrange and tweeter unit to create a true 3-way configuration. The result is accurate element localization in the mix, precise transient reproduction, and an extremely linear frequency response from 37 Hz to 24 kHz (-10 dB). Alongside the wired standard model, STUDIO 5X BT adds Bluetooth to flexibly play external sources such as smartphones, tablets, or laptops directly in the studio.
Analytical Neutrality: designed for color-free sound
STUDIO 5X starts from a clear premise: a professional monitor should not color the sound it reproduces. Teufel’s acoustic engineers in Berlin, who also work as producers, sound designers, and musicians, conceived the system from the ground up as a tool for professional work.
The development relies on advanced measurement technology. Through the Klippel Near-Field Scanner system, Teufel’s Berlin measurement laboratory analyzed and optimized the frequency response and phase via mechatronic measurements. This approach isolates the influence of room acoustics entirely during development.
The 3-way system separates the different frequency ranges so that each driver operates within its own band. By not requiring the midrange’s most sensitive frequencies to be reproduced, the 5.25-inch woofer significantly reduces intermodulation distortion. The built-in DSPs use linear-phase filters to reproduce the temporal structure of signals with precision, including the fast attack transients of drums or plucked strings.
The result is uncolored, artifact-free transients and analytic transparency that allows immediate identification of EQ adjustments.
Coaxial design and flexibility for studio work
The concentric, coaxial arrangement places the midrange and tweeter on a common axis. This configuration creates a true point source that provides excellent depth and precise localization within the stereo field.
Moreover, this setup offers a practical advantage in the studio: when rotated, there are no phase shifts or frequency drops at the crossover point. Therefore, STUDIO 5X can be used vertically or horizontally without compromising its acoustic characteristics.
The waveguide engineered for the tweeter broadens the sweet spot and yields a controlled dispersion pattern, so the imaging remains stable even as you move around the mixing console.
The enclosure design also contributes to neutral acoustics. The rounded front edges reduce diffraction at the enclosure’s ends, while the front-firing bass reflex port, optimized for airflow, minimizes air movement noise and permits placing the monitor close to a wall.
On the rear, the location-adaptation filters allow you to tailor the frequency response according to the monitor’s position relative to room boundaries: against a wall, in a corner, or in a free-standing setup.
For multi-channel and immersive audio configurations, such as Dolby Atmos, STUDIO 5X features two M6 threaded mounting points for standard tripod, wall, or ceiling mounts. In addition, König & Meyer (K&M) collaborated on dedicated desktop stands.
Bluetooth to streamline workflow
The STUDIO 5X BT version expands this flexibility with a Bluetooth module compatible with AAC and aptX HD. This lets musicians, producers, and clients connect directly to the system without cables.
New song ideas, demos, or reference tracks can be played spontaneously from a smartphone, tablet, or laptop, without changing the audio interface routing.
Thus, STUDIO 5X BT serves not only as a reference monitor during mixing but also as a listening workstation for collaborative sessions and for checking productions in a more relaxed setting.
