The firm Robert Walters has published a sector report on Business Support, analyzing how this function is redefining its impact within Spain’s organizations. The report notes that professionals are taking on responsibilities beyond traditional administrative duties. More and more, they participate in project management, coordinate teams, and contribute direct value to the business. This shift responds to a growing demand for versatile profiles capable of adapting to dynamic environments and handling advanced digital tools.
“The value of this support function is not measured by task execution, but by its impact on operational continuity, organizational quality, and the business’s ability to respond. Organizations that rethink how they integrate, position, and empower these roles will be better prepared to sustain efficiency in increasingly dynamic environments,” explains Cristina Borreguero, Senior Manager in the Administration and Secretariat recruitment division at Robert Walters.
Scarcity of qualified talent and high turnover challenge the sector
Despite this positive evolution, companies face significant challenges. Talent scarcity, with a turnover rate of 14%, is heightening competition among firms and lengthening recruitment processes. In addition, junior roles show high turnover, which generates onboarding costs and loss of organizational knowledge.
According to Borreguero, “Loyalty no longer hinges solely on salary, professionals increasingly value comprehensive packages that include professional development, flexibility, and an organizational culture aligned with their personal values.”
Another challenge highlighted in the report is the impact of the hybrid model, which has become standard in many companies. This has driven the need for profiles capable of working effectively both remotely and on-site.
“Organizations that bet on automating routine processes not only optimize resources, but also free time for secretarial and administrative professionals to focus on strategic activities that add real value to the business,” notes Borreguero.
The cited report emphasizes that today companies have a unique opportunity to transform the support area into a strategic engine within the business. The key is to evolve these roles into positions with greater coordination capacity and direct business support, positioning them as an active part of the organizational core. In an increasingly competitive job market, those organizations that know how to adapt their structures and policies will have a significant edge in attracting and retaining qualified talent.
