Sony Wireless Microphones DWT-B40 and DWR-R40

Sony has unveiled the belt-pack transmitter DWT-B40 and the rack-mount receiver DWR-R40Q, the latest additions to the DWX digital wireless microphone line. These units are designed to deliver intuitive, straightforward operation within reach of a broad range of users, while ensuring advanced transmission reliability. The two new models, the DWT-B40 and the DWR-R40Q, are expected to be available in February 2027.

Traditionally, frequency setup for wireless microphones has required specialized knowledge and complex procedures. However, with the fourth generation of the DWX series, channel configuration and pairing can now be performed with simple operations, making the products suitable not only for professional production environments but also for a wider array of applications, from theaters, operas, and musicals to small- and large-scale studios with all kinds of live productions.

Despite their affordable price, the new series delivers greater transmission reliability thanks to improved RF stability and long-range audio transmission. The DWT-B40 introduces, for the first time, an integrated audio recording feature in the transmitter, based on Sony’s exclusive technology, enabling distortion-free backup recordings directly in the transmitter itself, providing users with peace of mind and reliable protection against unexpected on-set issues.

In terms of transmission reliability, the improved resistance to interference and the low-noise RF output waveforms ensure steady, dependable operation even in challenging RF environments.
  2. The DWT-B40 supports a maximum transmit power of 50 mW, enabling stable long-distance audio transmission without the need for an external power source, and it can be used with higher transmit powers in environments that demand extended-range transmission.
  3. The DWT-B40 offers flexible audio transmission options tailored to various production needs—from configurations that provide exceptional sound quality with low latency to modes optimized for maximum transmission reliability in demanding broadcasting and sports environments.
  4. Meanwhile, the DWR-R40Q employs high‑performance RF technology in its receiver circuitry, significantly improving transmission stability and delivering reliable performance even in RF-dense environments. Its four-antenna diversity mode further enhances transmission stability.

Simple setup for everyone

This series allows you to configure the frequency and pair four channels with the press of just a few buttons. This intuitive workflow makes the products easy to handle for any user, enabling you to start recording almost immediately.

The DWT-B40 now supports power from lithium-ion batteries (sold separately) and USB, offering greater flexibility and convenience for ensuring power on location. Condenser mics can be connected directly to the transmitter, and it also provides +48 V phantom power.

On the other hand, the DWR-R40Q supports four-channel diversity reception in a 1U form factor, contributing to space-efficient use, and is compatible with the Dante audio network thanks to an expanded set of four output ports, providing flexible output options that fit a range of user workflows while offering more stable IP connectivity. It also maintains analog XLR connections to support traditional operations.

Thanks to Sony’s exclusive algorithm, the internal 32-bit floating-point recording provides a reliable backup even if the wireless signal is interrupted, helping users prepare for potential on-set audio issues. The 32-bit floating-point format avoids distortion at any gain level, and when combined with Sony’s clear, low-noise sound, guarantees a stable capture. Recording can be activated directly via the REC button, as well as remotely from the receiver through Cross Remote control. Timecode synchronization streamlines post-production workflows, and data transfer via microSD card is fast and straightforward.
