The Panamanian Minister of Commerce, Julio Moltó, has invited Spanish business leaders to reinforce their presence in the Panamanian market during the meeting held at the Chamber of Commerce of Spain, on the occasion of the official visit of a Panamanian ministerial delegation to Spain. “There are many growth opportunities in Panama. There is confidence in the country, and that confidence is important for investing,” Moltó said, addressing business and institutional representatives from both countries.
The Panamanian Minister of Commerce highlighted the strength of the Spain-Panama relationship and the potential for even closer economic collaboration: “We recognize what Spain means to Panama. Spain is a great country that has supported Panama,” he said. He also recalled Panama’s strategic role as an international logistics platform and its status as the “world’s most important free zone”, while expressing the willingness to continue promoting meeting spaces that foster investment and the exchange of information among companies and institutions.
During the opening of the meeting, the Secretary of State for Commerce, Amparo López Senovilla, underscored the importance of the Latin American country for the Spanish economy: “It is the main destination of Spanish investment in Central America, with a stock that exceeds €2.5 billion (roughly $2.7 billion) and generates more than 10,000 jobs. Spain wants to continue being a strategic partner, supporting its future projects with the experience, technology, and investment capacity of our companies.”
For his part, the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Spain, José Luis Bonet, highlighted Spanish companies’ interest in continuing to expand their presence in the country. “Panama is a strategic partner for Spain in Latin America and a market with enormous development potential,” he stated. He also recalled the opportunities generated by the investments planned by the Panamanian government in areas such as infrastructure, energy, transportation, water, and public services.
“From the Spanish Chamber of Commerce we value very positively the political and economic stability of Panama, as well as the initiatives promoted by the current government to strengthen its position as one of the region’s leading logistics, economic, and services hubs. In this sense, the Government’s 2025-2029 Strategic Plan contemplates significant investments in infrastructure, transport, water, energy, and public services that open up new possibilities for collaboration for Spanish companies. Spain can also play a key role as a bridge between Panama and the European Union, facilitating Panamanian companies’ access to the European market and strengthening links between Europe and Latin America.”
The ambassador of Panama to Spain, Héctor Infante, has agreed on the need to continue strengthening economic and business cooperation in a particularly complex international context and highlighted the strategic character of the relationship between the two countries.
Both countries maintain a strong economic and business relationship. Panama is currently the main destination for Spanish exports in Central America and the fifth Latin American market for Spanish products. It is also the leading recipient of Spanish investment in the Central American region and one of the continent’s leading logistics and services hubs, thanks to its strategic position as the gateway between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
