According to the mercantile registry data tracked by Iberinform, the formation of new companies rose 37% in February compared with the same month of the previous year. For the year to date, new business formation has increased by 23%. The new firms are concentrated in Madrid (21% of the total), Catalonia (20%), Andalusia (17%), and the Valencian Community (13%). By sector, the largest volumes of incorporations were in construction and real estate (25% of the total), business services (17%), trade (15%), and hospitality (8.9%).
The strongest year-to-date gains versus the same period in 2025 were recorded in the extractive industry (133%), real estate (123%), machinery (51%), and metallurgy (50%). By contrast, the creation of new companies fell the most in electronics and ICT trade (-38%), energy (-35%), and construction (-27%).
February data show that the dissolution of companies rose 5.5% year over year from the same month a year earlier. For the year to date, there was a 2.4% increase. The dissolutions of the business fabric are concentrated in Madrid (24% of the total), Andalusia (17%), the Valencian Community (12%), and Catalonia (8%).
By activity sector, dissolutions occurred most intensely in construction and real estate (25% of the total), followed by trade (19%) and business services (16%). They were less intense in manufacturing (7%), hospitality (6.6%), and the primary sector (1.9%).
The strongest growth in dissolutions occurred in the metallurgy sector (80%), real estate (70%), and the extractive industry (50%).
