Powerdot has integrated its charging network with Hubject’s Plug & Charge ecosystem, enabling compatible electric vehicle drivers to start charging simply by plugging their car into the company’s charger.
More than 7,000 of Powerdot’s charging points in France, Spain, Belgium, and Poland are already Plug & Charge compatible, representing more than half of its network, which totals over 13,000 charging points distributed across more than 2,400 locations in Europe.
Thanks to Hubject’s Plug & Charge infrastructure, based on the ISO 15118 standard, this technology allows the vehicle and the charger to communicate automatically and securely. For drivers with a compatible vehicle, this eliminates the need to open an app, use an RFID card, or interact with the charger before starting a charging session.
Seamless Charging
The integration provides the interoperability layer that connects Powerdot’s charging infrastructure with vehicle manufacturers and electric-mobility service providers. Rather than forcing drivers to adopt a new charging service, Plug & Charge lets them use the compatible services already associated with their vehicle.
“The mass adoption of electric vehicles depends on charging being seamless, to the point that drivers barely have to think about it. Each operator that adds Plug & Charge to its network moves the industry a little closer to that goal, and Powerdot’s footprint across Europe represents a meaningful advance in that direction,” says Christian Hahn, CEO of Hubject.
“Making EV charging simpler means removing steps from the experience, and Plug & Charge lets us do exactly that,” says Luís Santiago Pinto, CEO of Powerdot. “Drivers should be able to reach a charging point, connect the vehicle, and continue with their day. Technology and complexity should work in the background. For the driver, it should feel like magic. By integrating our network with Hubject, we’re enabling this experience at scale, while remaining open to the platforms and services drivers already use.”
