CGAC Partners with BlaBlaCar to Promote Sustainable Mobility During Crises

April 6, 2026

The General Council of Commercial Agents of Spain (CGAC), a public-law corporation representing in Spain more than 15,000 licensed Commercial Agents, and BlaBlaCar have signed a strategic alliance to promote sustainable and shared mobility in situations of mobility crises in Spain, such as those that have occurred in recent weeks in Andalusia and Catalonia.

Commercial Agents are autonomous professionals who travel about 60,000 kilometers on average each year, moving daily between provinces across Spain on business trips, often in their own vehicle, occupying only the driver’s seat. BlaBlaCar, for its part, is the world’s leading carpooling platform, with more than 1.5 million unique active users per year who travel by carpooling in Spain, sharing costs and minimizing environmental impact.

BlaBlaCar optimizes technology to fill empty seats on the road, connecting users seeking shared trips and making travel more affordable, sociable, and sustainable. The CGAC, for its part, marks this year the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Spanish Chambers of Commercial Agents in 1926—a historic milestone that is helping to remind society of the profession’s role and its importance in the country’s economic and social development, through actions that allow giving back to society what it has contributed to the profession and to the professional organization.

Francisco Manuel Maestre, president of the CGAC, notes that “the recent transport crisis has shown us, as a professional collective, that we could lend a hand in our trips, performing a social function alongside our work, as drivers with many years of experience and knowledge of the roads, and always in exceptional circumstances as we have experienced, without any profit motive.”

Florent Bannwarth, CEO of BlaBlaCar Iberia, emphasizes that “the mobilization of BlaBlaCar drivers in moments of urgent mobility need is essential to assist those who require travel. Our alliance with the CGAC will enable us to activate a network of trusted drivers in times of national mobility tension and at moments when the solidarity of the car-sharing community can help the broader public.”
