Cartonplast Ibérica marks 30 years of activity in Spain and Portugal and is entering a new phase with a growth plan for 2027-2031 that envisions entering new markets and expanding its circular logistics solutions.
The company currently works with the major glass packaging manufacturers for food and beverages across Spain and Portugal and performs more than 40 million annual services with reusable intercalators, trays, and plastic pallets. Its pooling model enables closed-loop management of these elements, from distribution and collection to sorting, cleaning, and subsequent reuse.
«Our growth during these thirty years has been possible thanks to the trust of our customers and a constant commitment to innovation and quality in a sector that has undergone enormous changes. We have built a very solid position in the glass industry and now we want to leverage that knowledge to bring our model to other parts of the supply chain where we see great potential,» says José María Carrasco, CEO of Cartonplast Ibérica.
Looking to the Future
After three decades focused mainly on transporting empty glass containers, Cartonplast Ibérica has defined three major growth areas for the coming years.
- The first is the plastics packaging sector for food, beverages, and chemicals. The company is already in talks and initiating projects with specialized converters to deploy solutions based on reusable pallets and intercalators that replace single-use systems and improve operational and economic performance, as well as alignment with the European Union’s new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) for the logistics supply chain.
- The second growth line targets the market for metal packaging and cans for food, such as vegetable and fish preserves. Cartonplast sees potential to introduce reuse models that reduce waste from single-use packaging tied to transporting containers and to improve the efficiency of transporting the containers themselves.
- The third area is distribution and retail. In this case, the company aims to extend in the medium term the benefits of circular logistics to the transport of finished products, connecting manufacturers, distribution centers, and retail networks with reusable solutions tailored to new regulatory requirements around Reuse.
“Over these three decades, we have watched the industry advance in automation and sustainability. Our circular economy model dramatically reduces the consumption of single-use materials, lowers waste, and optimizes the logistics costs of the entire supply chain. Cartonplast Ibérica’s story demonstrates how innovation applied to logistics can generate competitive advantages for the entire value chain, and we are ready to share that knowledge and bring it to other segments,” explains Carrasco.
Cartonplast Ibérica currently operates three facilities in Spain and Portugal, with washing capacity exceeding 45 million intercalators a year and a team of around 140 professionals. The company has established itself as a benchmark in the circular management of logistics assets, as evidenced by the various industry awards and recognitions it has received in recent years: BASF Awards – 2025; Verallia Best Supplier Award 2023; Liderpak 2024 Best Plastic Pallet Design Award; and WorldStar 2025.
