New Digital Tools to Help People with Diabetes

April 2, 2026

Adhera Health participated in the International Conference on Advanced Technologies & Treatments for Diabetes (ATTD 2026) to present its AI-powered digital platform, designed to support both families and healthcare professionals in diabetes management, facilitating from the hospital-to-home transition to long-term self-care.

“Diabetes outcomes are profoundly shaped by what happens between visits: daily routines, adherence, mental load, and the real-world context in which families live every day,” notes Ricardo C. Berrios, cofounder and CEO of Adhera Health. “At ATTD we want to show how our AI-powered health agents platform helps transform those signals into structured information and safe, personalized, actionable workflows for families and healthcare professionals.

Driving Responsible AI in Care Transition

One of ATTD 2026’s core pillars is supporting adolescents and young people with type 1 diabetes in their transition from pediatric to adult care, one of the most vulnerable stages in managing the disease.

In this context, Adhera Health is developing the project TANIA (Transition AI-based tools to Support Adolescents and Young Adults with Obesity and Type 1 Diabetes), focused on creating collaborative digital tools for patients aged 14 to 20. The initiative uses natural language processing to generate personalized transition plans and clinical reports tailored to the needs of patients and their families. The project is conducted in collaboration with researchers from the University of Seville.

Concurrently, the ELISA (Empowering Lives with Transition AI-based Solutions for Adolescents and Young Adults with Obesity and Type 1 Diabetes) project advances the development of responsible methodologies for generative AI based on participatory digital health research. This initiative drives the implementation of the Adhera Caring digital solution and is backed by the Valencian Institute of Competitiveness (IVACE).

Both projects reflect Adhera Health’s differentiating approach: combining responsible artificial intelligence, family-centered design, and the integration of clinical and psychosocial data to improve decision-making and long-term outcomes.

Support for Families in the Early Phases of Pediatric Diabetes

At ATTD 2026, the company also presents updates on the PALOMA project, focused on developing a personalized monitoring and support system for children recently diagnosed with diabetes or prediabetes.

Led by Adhera Health’s Chief Science Officer, Dr. Luis Fernández Luque, the project integrates structured self-care education, hospital-to-home transition support, and targeted mental health interventions designed to reduce caregiver stress and strengthen communication between families and care teams.

Co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), PALOMA is part of Adhera Health’s broader vision: to develop technology that not only optimizes treatment and the use of healthcare resources but also reinforces emotional resilience and family autonomy.

Clinical Validation Backed by Research

Adhera Health’s work is supported by growing scientific evidence validating the impact of its digital programs. The CARING-T1D study, in which 100 caregivers of children with type 1 diabetes participated, evaluated the Adhera Caring Digital Program and showed improvements in emotional well-being and support for self-care.

The randomized controlled trial DIAVERA, conducted with 150 adults with type 2 diabetes at three primary care centers in Mexico, demonstrated significant reductions in weight and systolic blood pressure after three months of using the digital intervention, as well as a modest reduction in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), a key indicator of diabetes control.

Using methodologies such as Computerized Adaptive Testing and Ecological Momentary Assessment, the company is advancing a biopsychosocial care model that integrates clinical, behavioral, and contextual data to offer interventions that are more precise and sustainable.
