Grupo Logalty advances in the development of online digital identification solutions, aligning with the evolution of the European regulatory framework that designates electronic identification systems compliant with the eIDAS Regulation as the foundation for verification processes in the financial sector. This regulatory shift marks a turning point for the financial industry, elevating robust electronic identification systems as the preferred path for remote onboarding of customers across the European Union.
In this context, the company has developed Very-ID, a technology designed to facilitate the adaptation of financial institutions to the European Banking Authority (EBA) guidelines and the Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR), which consolidate the use of certified digital identities as the standard in onboarding processes.
The EBA/REP/2025/35 opinion establishes that, from 2027, remote customer identification should be conducted primarily through recognized electronic means, such as chip-enabled identity documents or future European digital credentials (European Identity Wallet). This approach reduces the value of other identification methods, which becomes an exceptional resource and subject to stricter technical and supervisory requirements.
The new regulation responds to the need to strengthen anti-money laundering prevention mechanisms through more robust identity verification processes against rising threats such as impersonation, document forgery, or the use of advanced fraud techniques like deepfakes. The EBA thus promotes a model based on certified, interoperable digital identities across the European Union.
This new paradigm, aligned with the AMLR regulation, marks the definitive shift toward robust electronic identification as the banking sector standard, progressively replacing traditional models that depend on human intervention.
Two-minute identification with full legal validity in the EU
Very-ID fits into this model by enabling electronic reading of official documents, such as chip-enabled IDs or passports, using NFC technology, with data extracted directly from the document’s chip and validated against official sources. The system incorporates biometric verification mechanisms and capabilities for detecting document fraud, and can be applied in both remote processes and in-person settings, with full legal validity across the European Union and allowing data handling strictly for the purpose of each process under the data minimization principle. In the specific case of in-person identification of Spanish citizens, Very-ID also integrates reading the QR from the miDNI app.
Unlike other models, which require between 2 and 5 minutes for the user to complete the process and a subsequent operator review, this approach enables completion in around two minutes, without operator intervention. This facilitates onboarding of new customers, improves operational efficiency, and significantly reduces total verification time, while optimizing resources and enabling greater scalability in contexts of high demand.
Each operation generates electronic evidence certified by Grupo Logalty as a Trusted Service Provider, ensuring the traceability of the process, as well as its integrity and availability for review. This functionality is especially relevant in an environment that requires reliably proving each identification process and maintaining a complete record for potential audits or inspections.
María Dolores Pescador, Executive President of Grupo Logalty, notes: “The evolution of European regulation requires solutions that go beyond documentary validation. It is necessary to verify identities from official sources, generate solid electronic evidences, and offer agile processes. Grupo Logalty positions itself as a strategic partner for banking, combining regulatory knowledge, proprietary technology, and a strong emphasis on legal security to facilitate efficient adaptation to the new framework. With Very-ID we help entities anticipate change and turn compliance into an opportunity for operational improvement and customer experience.”
